If you’re considering taking the plunge and having some ink on the lower part of your back, you are well advised to think about having some ink designed especially for you so that your tattoo is as unique as it can be.

Unfortunately, over the last few years, tattoos on the lower backs have acquired something of a bad reputation as tramp stamps. This was the result of many people jumping on the bandwagon of having some ink on their lower back without spending a whole heap of time or thought into what they were being tatooed with. You needn’t make follow their mistakes.

It can be difficult to articulate exactly what custom tattoo designs are, as every tattoo will be slightly different from the same tattoo on a different person. However, custom tattoos are tats which have been specifically crafted for someone. This is all well and good, but why is this relevant?

After all, this inking will be tattooed onto your skin for lots of years to come (if everything works out as it should!), so you should aim to make it as inimitable as possible but also as personal as possible. The tattoo is for you, so it has to have some important meaning to you.

Without doubt, not everyone is creatively minded and the majority of us require help in generating our tattoo design. However, before asking others for help, you are better off taking some time alone jotting down the types of tattoos you love; try and put together some sketches. Check online and walk in your local city to see what other people have been inked with. If you’re in love with one particular tattoo design, write it down.

To create a particular design which is personalized and unique to you, you should undertake some amateur psychology! Using a big piece of paper, write your name in the centre and write words or short phrases around the outside which could describe you. Start off with your appearance, then go on to how you think others perceive you, as well as what occupation you have, what friendships you are involved with, what you like to snack on, what you like to do in your personal time, which locations you enjoy spending your vacations. Effectively, you are attempting to get an awareness of yourself onto this piece of card, to enable you to gain a summarized idea of what you are like as a person. So frequently my friends have done the same thing and ended up with their perfect design after putting together a design concept that they then discussed with a tattoo artist. Go on; give it a try.

After having assimilated a final list of potential custom tattoo designs, you should have a chat with your partner to take into account their opinions. This isn’t necessarily for them to amend the design, but to offer input. If you are happy with your design, you don’t have to do this, but in my experience, lots of folks find this to be helpful.

After having done this, you should go and visit a local tattoo parlor to seek for their ideas and feedback. They will have an enormous selection of tattoo designs to choose from, and it is certainly possible to include your own likes and dislikes to transform one of their designs into one of the custom tattoo designs from which you will eventually make your choice. Without doubt, there’ll be a varied level of involvement, which is dependant upon how certain your preferences are and how artistic you think you are.

In conclusion, the tattoo you decide on must be something you engage with completely. Attempt to envision this love as a long term relationship rather than a short term relationship; this should see you on the correct path to finding the design which is perfect for you.

The use of tattoos has different meanings. Today it is considered a cosmetic fashion for status symbol. It can be mark of status and rank, spiritual devotion, sexual lures and marks of fertility, decorations for bravery, pledges of love, amulets and talismans, protection or marks to distinguish. The symbolism and impact of tattoo varies from place to place and from perception to perception. Today there are different forms of tattoo designs which are inscribed in different places of your body. Of all these the armband tattoo designs are the most popular form of tattoos which people go for with unintended consequences. This is particularly popular among young people and those who love to flaunt their tattoos.

Today tattoo has experienced some kind of resurgence especially in North American, Europe and Japan. The growth of tattoo culture has an influx of new artists into this industry and people want more innovative and unique tattoos for themselves. The armband tattoo designs are inarguably the most popular tattoo designs that people seek. Just look around and you find the them everywhere, the bikers, the CEO’s, the young women next door, the old man who is still young at heart, the young school teens and even the wild crowds in the pub. Besides armband there are ankle tattoo designs, wrist tattoo designs which are equivalently popular.

For most people the armband tattoo make a great first tattoo before they experiment somewhere else. The other reason for popular of armband tattoos is its variety and versatility. The available designs can make one feel unique and personal. You find a lot of armband tattoo designs which include intricate Organic tribal patters, feather motifs, Celtic knots, Hawaiian theme bands, feminine armband tattoos which include flower with vines which usually encircle the entire arm and others.

Armband tattoo designs are there for all ages and all people. No matter who you are – a college guy, a middle aged office executive or a rock star of your colony or a simple guy who has a fascination for armed tattoo. Here are few tips which you should keep in mind while you find a perfect armband tattoo design for you-

Are you looking for a tattoo design you are infatuated with? Do you wish your tattoo to speak about you personality and other feature? Then you must choose your tattoo very carefully. If you want your tattoo to tell rich stories and meaning of it the search for such armband tattoo like the Celtic tattoos, the Japanese tattoos or like the Cross tattoos properly on the web.

While you go for armband tattoo designs talk to your artist about the variety, size and color combination of your tattoos. Your skin color is very important to match the tattoo colors. Choose the colors which contrast well with your skin.

Do you wish to mix up themes? Then choose two different armbands which make proper armband designs. For instance you can choose Celtic knotting with a tribal horse at the centerpiece which makes a good combination of armband tattoo designing.

Your armband tattoo design can be a great tattoo if you choose them correctly and go to a good artist to inscribe it. No matter whether you have biceps or normal arms an armband tattoo design would suit your arm very aptly.

Before taking the step to have a permanent tattoo affixed to your body, you must first do some thorough thinking. Take into consideration that any tattoo will be with you for the rest of your life and is very expensive and painful to remove. Choose the location of the tattoo on your body very carefully. It may be a good idea to wear a non-permanent tattoo for a while to make sure that the tattoo you’re getting is exactly the right size and design you want.

Tattoos are reasonably painful to get, but you may stop the tattooist at any time during the procedure, until you feel ready to go on again. Some people feel pain more acutely than others. Most people feel inclined to get another tattoo soon – which is an indication of the bear ability of the pain. Large tattoos are done over a period of time, to give the wearer time to rest after each session. And yes, when the tattooist perforates the skin, there will be moderate bleeding. It is a good idea to be well rested before your first tattoo!

Expensive or Cheap? Good tattoos are expensive BUT nothing looks worse that a botched up tattoo. My advice is to choose a professional artist at a tattoo parlour, pay the extra amount and make sure that you get quality that will last a lifetime. Your tattoo artist should use a transfer sheet to transfer the image onto your body before starting to add on the colours…

Hygiene? Going hand in hand with choosing a professional tattooist, is making sure that your tattoo is done with all the hygienic safety precautions in place. A professional tattooist will show and explain to you all the safety precautions that are taken. It is a good idea to shop around beforehand to be able to cut out dodgy tattooists. See our article about safety precautions.

Aftercare should be prescribed to eliminate infection of the wounds and allow proper healing. In some countries underage tattooing is not allowed and special permission has to be given to tattoo mentally incapable people. It is advised to make use of well trained and professional tattoo artists and precaution must be taken by the client to make sure that tattooing is done only under the most hygienic circumstances. The responsibility ultimately lies with the client to make sure that all the safety precautions are adhered to. Click here for link to tattooing equipment for sale There are no hard and fast rules concerning immediate aftercare of a tattoo. It is advised though, to keep it as sterile as possible while it heals. Specially developed tattoo ointments are recommended, but there is consensus that gentle cleaning with soap and water is recommended. gentle anti bacterial ointment can be applied if the special tattoo ointments are not available.

Care must be taken not to use too much water for rinsing, though as this could also wash out tattoo inks or soften scabs before they naturally fall off. If a tattoo gets infected, the chances of distortion of the image are very good due to the formation of scar tissue and the loss of pigments. Two of the tattoo taboos are to remove scabs before the skin sheds them naturally and exposure to the sun is not advised. Tattoos frequently exposed to the sun will also have to be redone or touched up sooner then those not exposed – so stay out the sun – even after your tattoo has healed! Picking off scabs will remove the ink as well before it has set in and the sun tends to bleach tattoo inks. A tattoo looks at it’s best when the maximum ink remains imbedded in the skin.

Keeping a tattoo moisturised for the first two months after the first week of initial healing will keep your tattoo looking better for longer as the tattood area tends to become very dry during this stage. Keeping it moisturised will aso prevent scabbing and scarring. Allergic reactions to tattoo inks have been reported, but is very rare. It is recommended that a small patch of skin is subjected to the ink, before attempting a tattoo, especially facial tattoos, such as make-up tattoos. A program was introduced in Canada to legalize Prison tattooing. Inmates are trained and equipped with the right instruments to do tattooing properly – eliminating the chances of infection and disease spreading.

For as long as he can remember, Joel Montfort has loved to draw, sketch and doodle on whatever he can get his hands on.

As a kid, his artistic aspirations sometimes landed him in trouble.

“I really liked to draw skulls and demons and flames, that kind of thing. I went to a French Catholic school, so they weren’t very impressed with that,” he said. “I got kicked out of a lot of art classes.”

Today, the 28-year-old Oshawa man’s art is winning him national awards.

He’s only been working as a tattoo artist for about four years and didn’t expect much when he entered some of his work in the first annual Ottawa Gatineau International Tattoo Expo, which ran from Oct. 23 to 25.

To his surprise, he went home with eight trophies and a coveted ‘best in show’ title.

“I was so surprised to win anything, I haven’t been doing this for very long,” said Mr. Montfort, who goes by the nickname MOFO, a nod to the pronunciation of his last name. “I was really happy about the best in show award, that is a huge show of respect from the other artists.”

Mr. Montfort, who works at the Art of Affliction tattoo shop in north Oshawa, said he fell into his career by accident.

After high school in Chatham, he bounced from job to job, doing everything from factory work to an electrician apprenticeship.

In the meantime, he set about getting “sleeves” — tattoos covering the entire arm — a process that took about 80 hours.

“After my first tattoos, I was hooked, I wanted more,” he said. “Then, I started to think I could maybe do a better job if I was doing them myself.”

So, he asked an artist to take him under his wing and completed a year-long apprenticeship, while working nights at a factory.

“I was working 20-hour days, that was a crazy time,” he recalls. “But it was worth it.”

After months of watching and learning, Mr. Montfort finally attempted his first tattoo, a nautical star inked on a fellow apprentice. He says the experience was stressful — a crowd of people was watching — and he recalls that first effort as “horrible.”

Four years later, those nerves are a distant memory and he is known throughout the industry for specializing in intricate portrait tattoos, immortalizing the faces of celebrities and everyday people alike.

One of his award-winning tattoos from the Ottawa show is a 45-hour masterpiece that spans a man’s entire back, and features eight separate portraits of deceased rap and hip hop artists, their facial features as vivid as photographs.

He says there isn’t a secret behind his success, just a passion for drawing, attention to detail and a steady hand.

And, Mr. Montfort says he never forgets that tattooing is serious business — something he hopes clients consider as well.

“I’m always thinking about health and safety, and thinking about the quality of the work that I’m doing,” he said. “You have to, you’re scarring somebody for life.”

If you have already decided you want a tattoo, yet don’t know what you want, you should start searching for different meanings and styles of tattoos that may interest you. There are many types of symbolism to investigate, from beauty to danger, and everywhere in between.

Many first-time tattoos will be something small or unobtrusive. This is particularly common in young females, who would prefer a small star or shape than most other designs. Such tattoos are great for being able to have a
tattoo in the workplace, since it goes so unnoticed. They also tend to be cheaper, and often take less skill to make look professional.

If you aren’t afraid to get a somewhat larger
tattoo, you should look into obtaining a
tattoo of an animal. Even if you don’t want to show meaning through a symbol, you can use your pet as a basis for your
tattoo to show your love towards your pet that you care dearly about. You may also use specific animals to showcase your personality. A good example would be with the
tattoo of a penguin- which would show your softer side.

Dragon tattoos are quite popular in terms of tattoos. A dragon is a good chocie if you want to have a large amount of skin to be tattooed, since dragons tend to be very large creatures. A dragon can also be incredibly detailed, depending on the artist you choose. You could easily spend much more money on a dragon
tattoo than you would on counterparts discussed, such as a shape or animal.

Simple shapes would appear as geometry and not much else- but this isn’t always true. You could get a simple shape of a crescent, which would resemble a half-moon. In doing so, you could be showing others of your interest in astrology or science in general. You may also opt to get a
tattoo of the sun, stars, or a Zodiac symbol to show your love for astrology. Obviously, a simple shape can hold a lot of meaning in
tattoo design.

Perhaps most beautiful of all are floral tattoos, which can show a blooming flower even in the harshest of cold weather. Flower tattoos are quite common among women, who appreciate the
beauty and serenity that they provide. Floral tattoos also look great on almost all parts of the body, unlike other specific tattoos that are limited to one body part over another.

You will be living with the decision you make for a long time. Thus, you should make absolute certain that you are prepared to get the
tattoo design, and that you will be happy with it in the distant future. It will also save your money in case you do want to remove it later, if you make an educated decision beforehand.

The buzz of the tattooists’ needle will echo through the unlikely medieval surroundings of St Andrew’s Hall this weekend as Norwich hosts its first international festival dedicated to body art.

Tattoo artists and body art enthusiasts from across the country – and throughout the world – are expected to attend to marvel at inked creations and piercings through the most unlikely of body parts. Some may even be tempted to go under the needle themselves.

One of the star attractions will be Borneo’s Jeremy Lo who will be using traditional tattoo techniques – using two bamboo sticks and a high degree of precision while another person stretches the skin.

Mik Oliver, 41, a local tattoo artist at Styx studio on St Augustine’s Street, travelled to Borneo to have Jeremy give him a traditional dragon tattoo on his throat and neck.

“I had it done on my throat and side of my face,” he said. “I found it more relaxing than if I’d have had a machine one. The whole process is quite rhythmic and puts you in a bit of a trance with all the rhythmic tapping.”

Other international artists displaying their inky creations will be Julia Seizure, a well lauded artist from Star Crossed Tattoos, Hong Kong; Joe Wang from 8 Volts Tattoo in Singapore; and Eric Michalovic, who has travelled all the way from Devine, South Carolina in the US to attend.

But as well as tattoos, the event, which has been organised by local entertainment and preview guide Outline Magazine and Indigo Tattoo Studio, Lower Goat Lane, Norwich will also offer all manner of body modifications, piercings and other adornments that’ll make you stand out from the crowd.

Organisers are hoping the two day event, which takes place at St Andrew’s Hall on Saturday and Sunday, will make such a mark on the city that it will become a permanent fixture.

The human back makes an ideal canvas for a tattoo artist’s needles. If you are considering your first tattoo could do worse than to have it be an upper back tattoo. Why?

Upper back tattoos can range from small and simple to large and elaborate, and can stand alone or be the foundations for larger and more elaborate tattoo work if you like the outcome and want to add to it. Upper back tattoos are, more often than not, covered in indoor settings so they won’t be an issue in professional environments.

Women considering upper back tattoos will have to decide if their social life is a deterrent; backless formal gowns may be out of the picture once upper back tattoo enter it. But a small tasteful tattoo has found its way to many a female celebrity’s upper back, so the bias against female tattoos in upper social circles may be fading. Tank tops and bating suits will also be a giveaway for upper back tattoos, but in the casual environment at poolside they are not only accepted; they are often admired.

Any upper back tattoos you are considering should be a topic of conversation between you and your tattoo artist before you make any decisions. Placement is key, so that you can incorporate you design into a later full back tattoo if you so desire. At the same time, you don’t want you upper back tattoo to be so oddly positioned that it sticks out like a sore thumb.

You’ll also have to consider the amount of time you are accustomed to spending shirtless in the sun. You should be using sunscreen anyway, even if you don’t have tattoos, but sun exposure is a big contributor in the fading of tattoos. Your upper back tattoo is going to fade, because that is what tattoos do, but here’s no reason for you to speed the process simply because you neglect the sunscreen.

One big positive to having an upper back tattoo as you first is that they are much less prone to infection than tattoos in other areas. But you’ll still be responsible for following your tattoo artist’s after care directions, which will include periods of letting your tattoo be exposed to the air to help it dry. So consider the time of year when you get your tattoo; bring shirtless in January in your part of the world might get uncomfortable.

Nicolas Cage, with a top-hat wearing monitor lizard, David Beckham, with his son’s name above a Crucifixion scene; LeBron James, with Chosen 1; Fabio Cannovaro, with his daughter’s name; Melanie Chisholm, with a phoenix; and Laura Headley, with a lotus blossom, are just a handful of celebrities who have chosen upper back tattoos to say something about themselves or the things that matter to them.

If you do an online search for upper back tattoo designs, you’re sure to be amazed at the variety of designs from small and simple to mind blowingly intricate, and somewhere among them find the one which is perfect for you!

It does not take a genius for one to realize that tattoos are becoming indelible in our society today. People from all walks of life are getting themselves inked for various reasons. For some, the reasons are merely skin-deep: to increase their “level of sexiness” up a few notches, to identify themselves with a group of tattooed individuals, or to exercise their freedom and be cool. But for some, it involves a deeper, religious meaning.

Religious tattoos are quite common nowadays. We see cross tattoos or religious symbols and images being sported by different individuals around. And, in all truthfulness, a few of these individuals do not fit into the bill of what a religious person should be. But one question remains: Is tattooing of religious symbols recognized as a religious act? It would depend on which religious sector you belong to, and on what your religious beliefs are.

The advent of religious tattoos dates back to the pre-biblical era when the art of tattooing was widely practiced by the pagans as a means of worship until it was forbidden when Constantine became the emperor of Rome. According to Leviticus 19:28: “You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead; neither shall you make in yourselves any figures or marks. I am the Lord.” This then became the basis for Christians to shun tattooing.

Islam tradition forbids any bodily alterations made as a way to enhance physical beauty, and this includes body tattoos. Generally, the Muslim culture also considers tattoos unacceptable; as well as traditional Jews. However, maybe due to the changing of the times, this body art is now slowly being accepted by these religious sectors, though not as a religious act.

But in some Asian cultures, having religious tattoos is traditional practice. It is common custom for Buddhist monks to wear tattoos that are believed to ward off bad luck and evil spirits, and therefore serve as an amulet. In Hindu religion, tattooing is also common practice as part of their culture. For the Egyptians, religious tattoos such as The Eye Of Horus also serves as protection from evil spirits, to bring good luck, and to gain entry into after-life.

In recent times, religious tattoos seem to be just that: a skin-deep image of a once-revered symbol. The Ankh, Ichthus, the Sacred Heart and the Crucifix of the Christians; the Star of David, Menorah, and Allah symbols of the Islams; the Eye of Horus, Yin Yang, Dharma, and other religious symbols for different religious sectors are seen worn by people who do not practice the religion.

But it is also fairly common for a person to show his devotion by having something of religious importance etched on his body even on this day and age. So the question of whether religious tattoos are taboo or not lies on the personal belief of the wearer. It is no longer dictated by society but by how one chose to show his spirituality. Tattoos, like religion, have become a personal thing.

In the world of tattoo designs there are thousands of potential tattoos to choose from. Each and every day, there are new designs added to studios and online tattoo websites. Tattoos are becoming more and more popular these days, making the designs all the more important. Although flowers and other designs are popular, tribal designs seem to be among the most common.

The one thing that sticks out with tribal tattoos is the innovation. Tribal tattoos feature unique artwork, with most being more or less solid black with no other colors. Tribal can have several different meanings as well, as it all depends on the image that the artist is trying to bring to life. Tribal can either be a design that the artist already had or the artist can take your feedback and do the entire tattoo freehand as he goes along. Experienced tattoo artists can normally do great work freehand – as it gives you the ability to make changes as he goes along.

Some of the most popular designs with tribal tattoos include skulls and letters. Unique designs are also very popular, especially those that wrap around the arms or the back. Tribal can be put virtually anywhere on the body, just like any other tattoo. Depending on the tattoo design you have in mind, it may take quite a few hours before the artist has finished. With the larger tattoos, you may need to come back to have the work finished.

Before you decide to get a tribal tattoo, you’ll first need to decide on the design. If you don’t have an idea in mind, this can take you quite a bit of time. You can look online for some ideas, or look at some of the already made designs at your local tattoo studio. If you see something that you like but you want to be a bit more creative, you can always add to the design. For example if you see a tribal skull design that you like, you can make it bigger or change just about anything in the tattoo design that would make it unique for you.

If you want the entire tattoo to be unique and creative, you can always have your tattoo artist draw the entire tattoo from scratch. You can give input as well if you want, to ensure that the design matches what you have in mind. Drawing a custom tattoo can take anywhere from an hour to several hours, depending on the size and detail of the tattoo. Tribal tattoos that have a lot of detail can be a bit complex, both to draw and to tattoo. No matter what you have in mind for your design – you can rest assured that it can be accomplished with tribal design tattoos.

Each and every one of us is always on the lookout for great deals and any way to save money that we can find. With the Internet being so popular these days, many people often turn to the Internet for free tattoo designs. For most of us, free is always the way to go. When you stop and think about it, a free tattoo design sounds a lot better than paying as much as $150.00 for one at a tattoo studio. The fact about it is simple – someone could just as easily draw their tattoo design themselves and then pay the tattoo artist to put the tattoo on them.

If you give it some thought, you may begin to wonder if free tattoo designs are actually worth it in the end. The fact of them being free is always great, although you may wonder if the design is something you would like to display permanently on your body. When you show your new tattoo to friends, they may think negative thoughts when you tell them that you got the design free off the Internet. Each and every time you show your tattoo people will want to know about the message and the design, which you’ll probably need to think about.

All of us are familiar with the old saying “you get what you pay for”, and it’s truly no different in this scenario. Although there are hundreds and hundreds of websites on the Internet that provide free tattoo designs, few of them are really worth the interest. Most of the free designs out there on the Internet are very poor quality. Therefore, it would be in your best interest to wait and have a professional tattoo artist make the design for you.

Those who choose to go with free tattoo designs will tell you that tattoos are very expensive and they can’t afford to have a professional tattoo artists draw up the design. Some people, when dealing with custom tattoo designs, will say that their tattoo artist doesn’t do custom designs or that he just don’t want to do theirs. Although most of this may be true to an extent, there truly is no better way to get a tattoo than using a design made by a professional tattoo artist.

As most already know, free tattoo designs are normally made by those who know next to nothing about tattoo designing. In most cases, these designs are made by someone who is looking to make a quick profit instead of a true professional tattoo artist. You can easily tell that they aren’t professional quality simply by looking at them. Most free designs have poor quality, poor lines, and often times the work appears to be made on a personal computer. You certainly wouldn’t want to use something like this with your tattoo – simply because you will be showing it the rest of your life.

If you spend a lot of time searching on the Internet for free tattoo designs, you may be able to find a few with good quality. There are some good quality designs out there, although you’ll probably have to search quite a bit to find them. It’s best to have an idea in mind about the tattoo you want then look for it that way. Although it may take you some time, you could very well find it. If you do come across it as a free tattoo design – you should always triple check the quality before you decide to have it done.
